RRN Community Engagement Research Study Tour

In August 2023, we launched our research study tour across five of Nigeria’s largest coastal communities to delve into the intricacies of environmental change realities and assess the vulnerability levels of artisanal fishing communities and coastal dwellers against climate change. This crucial step towards realising the goals set forth for our 2024 Coastal Community Conference on Climate Change is aims to enable us immerse ourselves in these locales to capture the nuanced community narratives of resilience and adaptation that often go unnoticed amidst the discourse on climate change.

The selection of these communities strategic to our vision was led by our research led Senami Anko is aimed at uncovering the multifaceted impacts of climate change unique to these coastal communities while shedding light on the adaptive capacities developed by them overtime to strengthen resilience and by extension sustain livelihoods.

Each chosen community represents a microcosm of the broader challenges faced by coastal regions in Nigeria and through our rigorous data collection, interviews, and community engagement strategy, the RRN teams seek not only to document these narratives but also to amplify the communities’ in climate and ocean governance policymaking and implementation. In addition, the insights gleaned from this research endeavor will also aid grassroots interventions aimed at strengthening resilience and fostering sustainable development within these communities.

Stay tuned with us for more updates.
